75 outbreaks of avian influenza have been reported in France. The Southwest concentrates all of these outbreaks. The H5N8 strain is very pathogenic.
18 new homes in three days. The spread of avian influenza is rapid in the South-West. Seven departments in this region are fighting a large-scale epizootic. The highly pathogenic H5N8 strain circulates in farms, despite the protective measures required by the government.
As of December 30, the Ministry of Agriculture reported 75 outbreaks of avian influenza in French farms. As since the start of this outbreak, the Gers is the most affected department. And by far. On its own, it concentrates 39 households. The Landes follow, with 10 alerts, and the Tarn. There are also 5 outbreaks in wildlife. This number does not change.

667 households in Europe
The flu is spreading like wildfire in bird farms. This is not, however, for lack of having put in place the appropriate measures from the first jolts. While the virus is not yet in France, the Ministry of Agriculture invites breeders to be cautious, and notes the risk. Containment measures and the installation of netting seem to do nothing.
But France is not an isolated case: in other European countries too, progress seems inexorable. As of December 26, the animal health epidemiological surveillance platform (ESA) lists 667 outbreaks on the continent. France leads the way in terms of new cases, followed closely by Germany and Hungary.

Migratory birds have undoubtedly helped the rapid spread of this epizootic, from Eastern Europe to the Atlantic. The highly contagious H5N8 strain is also known for its extreme virulence. She killed many birds.
