Structures and support for adults autism must be multiplied in order to improve the autonomy and development of patients confronted with unique situations and disabling disorders, according to the new recommendations from the High Authority for Health (HAS) and the National Agency for the Assessment and Quality of Social and Medico-Social Establishments and Services (Anesm). The figure of 600,000 autistic adults is sometimes declared to estimate the prevalence of the disease in France, no epidemiological data exists to date.
Reduce the handicap situation
The basis of the accompaniment ofautistic adult will be based on “the daily implementation of their rights, as for any citizen, in particular: the right to non-discrimination on grounds of disability, the right to dignity and privacy, the right to a life personal, private and family, the freedom to come and go, the freedom to make one’s own choices, the right of access to healthcare, the right to exercise one’s civic rights (in particular the right to vote), the right to to accommodation ”.
All decisions must be made with the relatives of the autistic adult to define with him the implementation of personalized support adapted to the patient and his family.
“In addition to these interventions, particular vigilance must be given to the state of health, physical and mental, of the autistic adult. In some cases, the person may have difficulty expressing pain and this may even manifest itself in “problem behaviors” (aggression, self-mutilation, non-cooperation, etc.). This is why a check-up should be done at least once a year and when there is a sudden change in behavior. In addition, some people with autism may present with associated psychiatric disorders (depression, anxiety disorders, …) which may go unnoticed but which require dedicated care ”, concludes the HAS in its press release.
