Useful! Android 13 makes it possible to put two phone numbers on your smartphone.
Many people have a business number and a private number. You often need two smartphones for that. Android has come up with a handy solution and it will soon be possible to put two phone numbers on one smartphone.
Android 13 with two phone numbers
With some Android phones it is already possible to put two SIM cards in one device. However, we are increasingly using eSim. This is the replacement for the physical SIM card and it sits directly in your device.
The website Esper has found out that in the latest version of the Android code Google comes with a solution for this. The company comes with ‘Multiple Enabled Profiles’, also known as MEP. Current eSims are already capable of using MEP. But then you can only use one number (active use). Running two different numbers actively is not possible with this. This is possible with the new code. Then you can link two numbers from two different providers to your eSim.
Development phase
Android 13 is still in the development phase. Various functions are tested and adapted. Sometimes it even happens that they don’t make it to the finish line. We will never see this in a regular Android update. Still, many experts are hopeful that MEP will become available to the general public. This is partly because Google had already registered a patent in 2020. Past history shows that this is an indication that the company is taking it seriously. Let’s hope Android 13 will bring this feature to us.
