A new study shows that the size of female nipples varies much more than that of male nipples. This discovery goes against certain prejudices of science on the evolution of Man.
Nipples are the revolution. It is commonly accepted in science that biological characters that vary a lot are useless, and conversely those that vary little have a more clearly defined function. However, a new study conducted by Australian researchers shows that the size of female nipples varies much more than that of men.
Men’s nipples are smaller
The research was conducted by scientists from the University of Queensland in Australia. They measured the nipples of 63 people between the ages of 18 and 33: 33 men and 30 women. The size of the participants and their waist circumference were also taken into account. According to their results, male nipples are on average 36% smaller than those of women. The size of the nipples of women varies much more than that of men.
This observation contradicts the postulate according to which what varies a lot has little or no function for the species, since the nipples of women are used for breastfeeding unlike those of men who have no function strictly speaking. As Ashleigh Kelly, one of the authors of this study, explains: “Our results, which indicate that nipple sizes are highly variable, discredit studies that show variation in biological traits shows a lack of functionality.”
The clitoris used as an example
The idea that only what is not used varies in size has been widely supported by the example of the clitoris. The size of the latter varies much more than that of the penis, and the clitoris has no reproductive function. For Australian researchers: “Morphological variations in certain traits should not be used as an argument to determine whether a trait is functional or not.” Like what it is definitely not the size that matters.
