The latest US federal study conducted by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention shows that in the last twenty years, Americans (men and women) have not grown up. But that their waistlines, it has thickened because they weigh on average 7 kg more than two decades ago.
Young boys have put on 6 kg in 20 years
The children’s morphology has changed too. On average, boys weigh 6kg more than twenty years ago and girls 3kg more. But only the boys seem to have grown (3 cm more on average but the same height for the girls).
Experts do not provide any particular reason for this change in morphology, but it is clear that the United States is facing an epidemic of obesity. More than a third of Americans are overweight today and the percentage of adult Americans with a body mass index (BMI) of 40 or more fell from 1.4 percent to 6.3 percent.
