Hand washing dishes is associated with a lower risk of allergies in children compared to machine washing.
A big blow for dishwashers! A Swedish study published in the journal Pediatrics has just pointed out these machines which nevertheless make life much easier, especially when you have children. According to Swedish researchers, it would be better to return to the traditional washing of dishes by hand to protect the health of his cherubs.
Over 1,000 children
Scientists show that washing dishes by hand is, in fact, associated with a reduced risk of allergies. This is what emerges from a questionnaire on asthma, eczema and rhinoconjunctivitis among 1,029 children aged 7 and 8. Why such a result? The authors of the study can only offer one explanation: it would be healthier for children to eat on dishes that are not too clean.
Good to be exposed to germs
An explanation that supports the hygienic hypothesis, according to which exposure to microbes during the first years of life induces immunological tolerance. Being in contact with bacteria and viruses thus stimulates immunity and reduces the risk of developing an allergy.
But the study did not end there. She finally showed that the risk of allergy in children was even lower if children consumed fermented foods and if their parents bought their food directly from the farm.
