In a new branch of the supermarket chain Aldi, groceries are automatically paid for via a special app. Sensors are used to register which items a customer places in the shopping cart. The branch will be located on the corner of Oudegracht and Lange Viestraat in Utrecht.
When customers scan the app, they gain access to the store. Everything the customer picks up is added by the app to your virtual shopping cart. This is done on the basis of sensors. The system follows the movements that the customer and the item make. It does not use facial recognition, eye scans or, for example, fingerprints, the supermarket chain emphasizes.
