By 2030, the Ile-de-France region aims to eradicate AIDS. To achieve this, it improves access to screening and intensifies its preventive actions.
Ile-de-France wants to eradicate AIDS by 2030. An ambitious goal when we know that a third of people with HIV declared in France live in this region.
Already engaged in the fight against the disease on the basis of actions recommended by UNAIDS (1), the region will therefore step up its prevention and screening actions. “We can always do better,” recalled Valérie Pécresse, the president of the region, on July 4 during a press conference.
Priority to screening
For “an Ile-de-France region without AIDS”, access to screening will be facilitated. The region was to participate up to 50% in the purchase of buses. They will be employed by the Regional Center for AIDS Information and Prevention (Crips) and will travel throughout the region. They will allow access to the most vulnerable populations and the least inclined to be tested, such as migrants, sex workers, drug users or the homosexual community. On board, they will be able to carry out a free rapid screening test thanks to the self-tests.
These devices are acclaimed by the region since it provides for the purchase and distribution of 10,000 self-tests. At least 2,000 will be available this summer. “The region, through Crips, intends to make new self-tests available to associations and health professionals and to promote their use”, explains in a press release.
Prevent new infections
Regarding prevention, the region also wants to identify the number of condom distributors in high schools, and increase their number if necessary. The site http://ipasscontraception.fr, which lists information on sexuality and helps find a family planning center, will be enriched. Additional data on HIV should be provided.
And because prevention also involves doctors, the region wants to strengthen the training of health professionals. “The region will offer sensitization in health and social training institutes through modules provided by Crips,” she said.
It has also undertaken to fund the registration of young doctors from the Ile-de-France region to the 9th International Scientific Conference on HIV which will take place in Paris from July 23 to 26, 2017.
Finally, the emphasis is also placed on the fight against discrimination. Valérie Pécresse promised that help will be provided to all people who are victims of discrimination and who wish to take legal action.
