- This abnormal pregnancy happens in 2% of cases. It engages the vital prognosis of the mother who can die of an internal haemorrhage.
Died while carrying life. A 24-year-old woman from Charente died of complications from an ectopic pregnancy on Sunday September 27. The La Rochelle prosecutor’s office revealed his autopsy last Friday which indicated “provisionally, intra-abdominal haemorrhage related to an ectopic pregnancy.” The young woman wasnausea and pain during the evening [la vielle de son décès, NDLR] then discomfort in the heart of the night”, reminds the judiciary. The victim had just learned of her pregnancy and was staying with her in-laws.
His relatives called the SAMU twice during the night, but the help was not moved: “The regulating doctor having recommended rehydration and calming measures and directed the interested parties to the on-call doctor” according to the first elements of the investigation. In the morning, the family decided to transport the young woman to the emergency room “but his transportation was incompatible with his state of health, adds the public prosecutor. Recontacted, the emergency services intervened but were unable to resuscitate her. He was pronounced dead at 10 a.m. His companion filed a complaint, the La Rochelle prosecutor’s office indicated that he would soon open a judicial investigation against X, counts of manslaughter and non-assistance to a person in danger, entrusted to an examining magistrate. At the same time, an internal investigation has been initiated by the hospital which recalls “the difficulty of assessing the state of health of patients in regulation”. This drama echoes the other people who died and were misdirected or ignored by the regulatory services, such as Naomi Musenga in Strasbourg in 2018. At the time, an operator refused to take seriously the call for help from the young dying woman.
Ectopic pregnancy
Ectopic pregnancy is an abnormal form of pregnancy that occurs in 2% of cases. “During a normal pregnancy, the egg is fertilized in the fallopian tube by a sperm; it should normally progress to the uterus where it attaches to the endometriumexplains the Vidal Medicine Dictionary. In some cases, this progression is stopped and the egg develops in the fallopian tube, which risks rupture. It is an ectopic pregnancy whose diagnosis is made by ultrasound and which requires surgery. The suggestive signs of an ectopic pregnancy are lower abdominal pain and intermittent bleeding in a woman who presents with a positive pregnancy test.”
Ectopic pregnancies are often detected during the first ultrasound, when the doctor does not see the fetus in the uterus. In case of doubt, it is strongly advised to consult a doctor quickly. If the ectopic pregnancy is confirmed, the mother must be operated on urgently and the fetus removed and sometimes a fallopian tube if it is too damaged by this abnormal pregnancy. The scientific literature strongly suspects a correlation between the consumption of tobacco, the advanced age of the mother, the use of certain micro-progestogen pills and the occurrence of an ectopic pregnancy. A history of sexually transmitted diseases and pelvic surgery can also favor its occurrence.
