Miscarriage should not prevent you from trying to have a child again. On the contrary, to increase the chances of getting pregnant, gynecologists call on women not to wait for their new attempt.
It’s a revolution in the world of pregnancy. Indeed, until now gynecologists have recommended to wait several months after a miscarriage. And the World Health Organization even advised to wait 6 months.
These new recommendations are reminiscent of the results of a previous British study published in 2012 in the British Medical Journal.
Indeed, according to this study, the birth rate is higher in women who become pregnant within six months of a miscarriage than in those who try to conceive after six months.
For the second, the rates of miscarriage, premature delivery, cesarean section, low birth weight would be higher. The figures are even less encouraging for those who wait more than two years.
“The studies are now unanimous. To increase your chances of pregnancy, you have to start conceiving again quickly. Achieving a new pregnancy in the process, this does two things: reduce the risk of recurrence of the miscarriage and reduce the risk of complications (premature deliveries, cesarean section, etc.) “, underlines Cyrille Huchon, gynecologist at the intercommunal center of Poissy, in Hauts-de-Seine, cited by Europe 1.
The right actions to limit miscarriages
The miscarriages can be limited by changing their lifestyle. To drink alcohol, to smoke, working at night, carrying heavy loads and being overweight are risk factors for miscarriages.
And, more than a quarter of miscarriages could be prevented by making lifestyle changes, according to a Danish study. “Avoiding these risk factors before and during pregnancy would reduce the number of miscarriages respectively by 15% and 12.5%” explains Anne-Marie Nybo Andersen, main author of this study, published by The International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
