The abortion strike will not take place. Remember: this Wednesday March 13, 2019, the National Union of Gynecologists-Obstetricians of France (Syngof) had invited its members (via an email) to be “ready to stop the practice of abortions TO”. The objective of this threat: to make heard claims concerning a reassessment of the guarantee fund of the profession (FAPDS), considered insufficient by the professionals.
The declaration (strongly condemned by the Order of Doctors and by many associations) had generated a real outcry among Internet users: in total, 1,700 letters were sent © s to the President of the National Council of the Order of Doctors, Dr. Bouet. The Minister of Health Agnès Buzyn had herself declared “a hostage-taking of women” which could “in no case” serve as “a lever for negotiation”.
“The Syngof will not stop the practice of abortions”
New device: in a press release published this Thursday, March 14, 2019, the Syngof backtracked and denounced a “false controversy”. “The Syngof will not stop the practice of abortions, but it will not weaken in the face of the problem of insurance coverage for gynecologists, surgeons and anesthetists which threatens the sustainability of the profession” perhaps we read there.
And to add: “Syngof gynecologists unreservedly support the right to abortion. It is unfortunate to note [que] in our democracy (…) the only way today to be heard is to generate a false controversy on social networks ». Phew, here we are reassured!
