How do you tackle cellulite?
As bikini season approaches, our gaze turns more and more anxiously to thighs and hips. Because there’s female enemy number 1: cellulite. According to various studies, more than ninety (!) percent of all women suffer from it after the age of eighteen. More importantly, how do we get rid of it?
Cellulite mainly occurs on legs, buttocks and hips. It can be recognized by a skin with pits and bumps and sometimes even painful spots. Cellulite (not to be confused with cellulite, a medical term for inflammation of the cells) is mainly caused by accumulations of fluid, fat and waste products due to a disturbed blood flow and a faltering lymph system. If the accumulations are not drained in time, they harden and push the skin out irregularly. The result: pits and bumps. Hormonal and hereditary factors play a role in the development of cellulite. Unhealthy food, the contraceptive pill, use of medicines and lack of exercise exacerbate the phenomenon.
Beauty’s with bumps
It sounds a bit strange, but it has nothing to do with thick or thin. The fat percentage plays no role in the development of cellulite. Even very slim women struggle with it. There’s even a special website that shows celebrities at their worst. Believe it or not, Donatella Versace and Mischa Barton also have cellulite. And Kim Kardashian recently complained in the media about the cellulite on her thighs. No wonder, then, that an entire industry has sprung up to help women get rid of their pits and bumps.
Eat your smooth
An active lifestyle with lots of exercise and healthy eating is the best prevention for cellulite. Once it’s created, it doesn’t disappear as quickly. To reduce cellulite, it is important to improve the blood circulation in the skin. For example, by putting less coffee, alcohol and food with chemical additives on your menu.
Caffeine has a negative influence on the blood circulation, so that the waste products remain on the hips and thighs. Drinking a lot of water, at least 8 glasses a day, helps to remove the waste. Start the day with a glass of lukewarm water with half a squeezed lemon. And if you have to bite through the sour apple; apples also stimulate the detoxification process. And need we say that exercise is good?
Lubricate, lubricate, lubricate
Step 2 is an anti-cellutite cream or gel. These products stimulate blood circulation and help to remove fat deposits. Every self-respecting cosmetic brand has one in its range. Ironically, these creams often contain caffeine to help flush out the waste. You get the best results when you apply the anti-cellulite cream with massaging movements. This stimulates the drainage of moisture. Lubricating and massaging is a matter of patience; it takes a while before results are visible.
Massage
With severe cellulite you could think of a series of intensive connective tissue massages by a therapist or beauty institute. This can be done by hand, but usually a massage device is used for a deep connective tissue massage. The treatment improves blood circulation in the skin, loosens adhesions and makes the fat distribution more even. Usually about 10 to 12 treatments are needed. To keep track of the result, you can then opt for a monthly maintenance treatment. A valuable investment, but then you also have something.
