the pregnancy test will it soon be left in the closet? The Israeli start-up Salignostics has developed a new method to find out if you are pregnant or not thanks to theanalysis of your saliva. Called Salistick, has just received the CE marking, certifying its compliance with European regulations. It should therefore be available from the beginning of 2023 in several European countries.
Like a classic urine pregnancy test, the saliva test can detect the Beta HCG hormone – secreted by pregnant women – and this from the first day of missed period, potentially making it an effective test even for early pregnancies. “Saliva is the key to rapid diagnosis for various medical reasonssaid Guy Krief, co-founder of Salignostics, to Medical Device Network. Essentially it’s the only way non-invasive, easy and hygienic to detect hormones, viruses and even diseases.”
How does this new test work?
To perform the urine test, simply place the foam stick in your mouth for a few seconds before placing it back in its base. Less than 15 minutes later, the result is already there: a bar in the event of a negative test, and two colored bars in case of positive testultimately like a classic pregnancy test.
But this time, no question of isolating yourself in a toilet and ending up with urine on your fingers. It can be done everywhere and the one and only condition to be able to do it is to be Fasting for at least 30 minutes.
Is this test really effective?
According to the Israeli company, these pregnancy tests are 98% reliable. A clinical study was conducted on more than 300 pregnant and non-pregnant women. In comparison, the urine pregnancy test is 99% reliable. Only the blood test can be 100% sure of the presence or not of a pregnancy.
Before developing this pregnancy test, the start-up had already made a name for itself thanks to SaliCoV, a salivary antigen test to detect Covid-19 in the form of a small pen to be placed inside the mouth, much less intrusive. than the large cotton swabs usually plunged (painfully) into our nostrils. The company even claims that the saliva test could replace the classic urine test.
The price of the device has not yet been revealed.
