Are we too exposed to electromagnetic waves? To find out, the AFNR plays the “policeman” of the waves by ensuring that the limit values for public exposure to electromagnetic fields are respected. Its bible on the subject is a protocol published in the Official Journal which lists the measures taken in the field. Problem, the old protocol version of 2011 is starting to date a bit. It does not take into account the development of 4G mobile telephone networks and WiFi.
It is to update this measurement protocol that AFNR is launching a public consultation until June 15.
The aim is to “assess the level of exposure to maximum power of 4G mobile telephone networks and [de] allow the measurement of waves emitted by wireless local networks, taking into account all versions of WiFi, “said the agency in a press release.
In order to improve the quality of the results, a “maximum evaluation by extrapolation of the exposure is envisaged. […] based on real coefficients, corresponding to the antennas which serve “the measurement areas. The four Internet and mobile telephone operators will be involved.
A summary of the consultation will be available on the website www.anfr.fr, before the entry into force of the new measurement protocol.
Little is known about the health impact of electromagnetic waves. This ignorance worries the French all the more. Last February, a bill intended to better protect the French from electromagnetic waveswas voted on in the Assembly. It provides for the supervision of relay antennas and the end of WiFi equipment in nurseries and schools and the recognition of electro-hypersensitivity. The text should be voted on by Parliament at the end of 2015 early 2016.
