Assistance Publique – Hôpitaux de Paris confirmed the suicide on Tuesday at its office of a nurse from the medical information department (DIM) of Cochin hospital.
The Assistance Publique – Hôpitaux de Paris (AP-HP) faces a sad law of series. In a press release published on Tuesday, the institution confirms the new suicide of one of its agents, on the morning of March 7, 2017.
At AP-HP for more than 20 years, this 45-year-old nurse has been assigned to the medical information department (DIM) of Cochin hospital (14th) for six years. She took action in her office. And despite the intervention of the emergency services, the victim could not be resuscitated.
His family was immediately notified. A psychological support unit has been set up and welcomes staff who so wish.
As with every time there is a suicide in the workplace, actions have been taken to analyze the causes within the framework of the health, safety and working conditions committee (CHSCT). At Cochin hospital, it will meet on Wednesday morning, with the support of the AP-HP suicide analysis unit.
A service in difficulty
Announcing wanting to act “in full transparency”, the AP-HP claims that it takes “very seriously this new tragic event” which occurs barely a month after the suicide of a young nurse at the Georges-Pompidou European Hospital (HEGP). She even writes that this death “strengthens her determination in the prevention and detection of psychosocial risks and the improvement of working conditions”.
A reaffirmation that is needed because this tragedy occurs precisely in a service in which functional and relational difficulties had been identified. “This had led to an administrative investigation carried out by the HRD, at the initiative of the management of the Paris Center hospital group (on which the Cochin Hospital depends) and to an expertise from the CHSCT”, specifies the AP-HP.
Ineffective actions
According to her, the situation seemed “less acute” since. Except that in reality, the problems of this service were far from being resolved. The AP-HP continues, it is true, by indicating that, despite the first organizational changes that had been implemented, the difficulties were “persistent”. This is evidenced by the recent decision of the director of the hospital group and of the CEO to carry out an audit. The first meeting took place last week.
“All of these elements will make it possible to determine the existence of links between the difficulties noted in the service and this tragedy”, concludes the AP-HP. In the meantime, both offer their condolences to the agent’s family, friends and colleagues.
Hospital: 200 reports of mistreatment
In six months, the Jean-Louis-Mégnien association received dozen of vibrant testimonials from health professionals describing situations of harassment at work. In all, 200 doctors, nurses and caregivers working in 70 public hospitals told the association that they were harassed by their superiors.
The association, formed the day after the suicide of Professor Mégnien, cardiologist at the European Hospital George Pompidou (Paris), has compiled these testimonies which constitute the first map of France of the mistreatment of hospital staff, published in The Parisian.
