The Public Health France agency is launching the 9th edition of the Health Barometer, which will assess the opinions of French people on major public health issues.
Launched in 1992 by Inpes (today Public health France), the Health Barometers aim to “better understand the opinions and behavior in terms of health of the population living in France, and thus guide prevention and information policies for the population”, explains the health agency. The 9th edition of the survey has just been launched and will end in July 2017.
It will be carried out with 25,000 people aged 18 to 75, who will be contacted by telephone for a 30-minute interview. The numbers will be drawn at random, and only those selected will be able to participate. Investigators will call from a limited number of numbers, which can be found on the site dedicated to the Barometer.
25 themes covered
Smoking, nutrition, well-being, sleep, living conditions, vaccination practices, sexual behavior… The French selected at random will be interviewed on 25 themes, and will give their feeling of information on these subjects, and their opinions on health. Their responses will be the subject of scientific publications, which will make the results public in 2018.
The latest results date from the 2014 Health Barometer. In particular, it highlighted the significant increase in occasional alcohol consumption (API, in other words, binge drinking), or that smoking was struggling to decrease in France despite the 3 million vapers.
