American researchers have developed software capable of analyzing the emotions of the voice and deducing whether the person speaking is depressed or not, or even suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTS).
The algorithm analyzes the voice and detects people with depression
Using their voice analysis algorithm on more than 250 volunteers, whose emotional health status was previously measured using a questionnaire, they were able to confirm the relevance of the model.
The advantage of such a device is that it can allow a doctor, or a psychiatrist, to confirm his diagnosis, if he ever had any doubts., or even to detect warning signs of depression or post-traumatic stress disorder in patients who deny or ignore them.
This device, called SimSensei, could also be used to detect other mental disorders, such as schizophrenia, or even Parkinson’s disease.
Moodies sets the tone for the voice
A mobile application, available on Android and on iPhone, called Moodies and developed by Israeli researchers, also analyzes the voices of those who speak near the smartphone. Unable to be able to detect depression as reliably no doubt as SimSensei, it displays on the screen the tone of the voice of the speaker, regardless of the language, which proves that it is a question of tone, rhythm of sentences, breaths, which allows to deduce the emotional state of the speaker …
