A DMC-12 to win!
The Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles has decided to gift a DMC-12 – fully restored – to one of the people who will register on the donation collection platform Omaze. You have until January 7, 2022 to try your luck. By bringing this star from the 80s into play, the museum takes the opportunity to raise funds for its foundation which:
- supports educational programs related to the automobile
- ensures the preservation of its mechanical heritage.
You are under no obligation to donate to participate in the contest, however those who have contributed to the prize pool will increase their chances of winning. The game is not limited to American territory but, if you win the stake, the costs of repatriating the vehicle will be at your expense (import duty, registration fees, etc.). The winner will be announced on January 26, 2022.
The unique story of DeLorean
The DMC-12, fruit of the imagination of John Zachary DeLorean, was born in 1981. It unfortunately only became successful two years after its production ceased, in 1985, when Hollywood made him a star of the movie sets. For the record, it benefits from gullwing doors and is equipped with the V6 PRV (Peugeot-Renault-Volvo) produced in France between the beginning of the 80s and the end of the 90s. The block which develops only 130 hp is installed in a central position back.
Even today, the DeLorean still arouses as much enthusiasm. So much so that in 2016, a company called DMC (for DeLorean Motor Company) was created with the intention of relaunching the production of this vehicle. The only thing missing was the passage of the American law authorizing the production and marketing of replicas of vehicles aged at least 25 years to make the project a reality. After 5 years of waiting, the text was finally adopted. Only, DMC is no longer in the game. The new engine that the company had selected is soon no longer approved! It is therefore obliged to profoundly modify its specifications to meet the new technical and environmental standards in force in the country. Conclusion: the project is still at a standstill.
