the happinessis health. This is pretty much what news reveals research American publications in the journal Applied Psychology: Health and Well-Being. To demonstrate this, the researchers drew on the already existing scientific literature on the subject and found that cultivating happiness and positive emotions helped improve immune systems and cardiovascular, as well as the body’s ability to heal injuries. And for good reason: being happy would help to get rid of harmful behaviors such as smoking or alcohol consumption.
Well-being, an element to be taken seriously
If the link between happiness and health is proven, how do positive emotions affect the body? The debate around this question is still current within the scientific community and more in-depth research is needed. “It is clear from this research that subjective well-being influences health, but we need to know more”, precise Sarah Pressman, professor of psychology and co-author of the study.
The objective of this research is, among other things, to encourage physicians to take a greater interest in the well-being of their patients. “We need to take very seriously the fact that happy people are healthier and live longer, and that chronic unhappiness can be a real threat to health,” concludes Ed Diener, professor of psychology and lead author of this research.
