While several side effects, such as severe burns, have been reported following a cryolipolysis, the Ministry of Health has instructed the High Authority for Health (HAS) to give its opinion on the risks of this technique. The latter therefore collected a great deal of data from France and foreign countries (scientific literature, public databases dedicated to vigilance, data from insurance companies, etc.). But before being able to submit its report, the HAS has today opened a public consultation. The organizations concerned will be able to contribute to this evaluation until May 28.
Cryolipolysis is the destruction of adipocytes (cells that store fat) by cold. Discovered in the late 2000s, this technique promises to reduce subcutaneous fat in the abdomen, thighs, arms, chin, etc. It owes its success to its non-invasive effect and its speed, a session lasting between 40 and 60 minutes.
All data is important
The public consultation will serve to supplement the data from the HAS concerning the devices used, the methods of carrying out the sessions, the training of operators, the adverse effects and all other information useful for the construction of the report. The public consultation takes the form of a questionnaire to which only collective representations can respond:
- – health professionals, aesthetics and beauty professionals
– associations of users, consumers or patients
– manufacturers and distributors of cryolipolysis devices
These contributions will be analyzed by the HAS, will enrich the file and finalize the assessment. If a person wishes to report an event individually, they are encouraged to go to a regional health agency (ARS) if they are not a health professional, in which case they can go to the internet portal. signaling-sante.gouv.fr.
