The French blood establishment appeals to the French to continue the effort of donations during the month of August, especially on vacation spots.
At the end of June, the French Blood Establishment (EFS) launched an urgent appeal for donations, because it was facing a major shortage. A call to which the French had responded, allowing stocks to float.
But at the start of August, the situation is once again delicate. The EFS therefore addresses the population to give a little of themselves and of their time, to help meet the needs: every day, 10,000 donations are necessary.

There is no point in giving en masse to be quiet for several months. The lifespan of blood products is short: 5 days for platelets, and 42 for red blood cells. Donations must therefore be constant.
And, unfortunately, when donors are on vacation, they don’t donate anymore. This is why the EFS travels to the vacation spots of the French. Numerous mobile collections are organized throughout France, especially by the sea.
In 2015, more than 1.5 million people donated blood, often several times: 2.8 million samples were taken in this way. In three quarters of an hour, the case is settled. Less than an hour of vacation to save a life is time that is not really wasted.
