Does it achieve the promised 1,500 horsepower?

We now know that Audis and BMWs often have more power than the brands claim. Can you assume that this is automatically the case with Audi’s sister brand Bugatti? Or would Bugatti be secretly like ‘nobody is ever going to check this with their Chiron, so we can yell what we want’? Time for a roller bench test. Steve from the YouTube channel The Hamilton Collection just happens to have a Chiron lying around to put on the power bank. The special thing is that you can hear how the W16 sounds without wind noise.
Don’t feel like sitting down for 10 minutes (because you’ll come across some commercials anyway) for this video? Then you miss some underpants jokes, the sound of the W16 and the exciting moment when the Chiron seems to dance off the couch. But come on, we’ll tell you the outcome: the Bugatti Chiron produces just over 1,500 horsepower at the crankshaft. On one run, the bench measures 1,313 horsepower at the wheels, which equates to 1,527 horsepower at the crankshaft. Crankshaft horsepower is also what it always says in the brochure. Incidentally, the proven speed specialist John Hennessey once said that he suspects that the Chiron Super Sport 300+ should have against 2,000 hp.
