4 squares of sugar in a bowl of cereal petals, 6 and a half sugars in 5 chocolate snacks, 3 and a half sugars in a strawberry yogurt: the instagram account @dealerdesucre reveals in photos the amount of sugar present in our daily food. And we have to admit that the photos hit the mark and that we will probably think twice before falling for three strawberry trays for afternoon tea or to accompany lunch with a can of soda!
Contacted by the website of Huffington Post, the person who launched this Instagram account explains his approach: “I don’t have any particular talent, apart from a taste for information and new media. Healthy food is also one of my areas of interest. This is how this project was born”.
But no question of posing as a lesson giver: “My message is not to say that we must stop eating sugar, nor to campaign against it. It is not my role. My point is simply to say: consume sugar, why not, but in full consciousness of what we consume. “
In the captions of the photos, the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO) in terms of sugar consumption are specified each time. In his new nutritional recommendations, the WHO would indeed like adults and children to reduce their sugar consumption to 10% of their daily energy intake, in order to reduce the risk of overweight, obesity and cavities. An important issue because non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, the cancer or heart disease is the cause of 16 million premature deaths each year worldwide.
