According to the latest InVS bulletin, the epidemic is well and truly over. The sharp decrease in influenza activity in town medicine and hospitals continues.
To those who are worried in public transport or at home, rest assured, the hexagonal flu epidemic is behind us. In its last weekly bulletin, the National Institute of Health Watch (InVS) indicates that the influenza epidemic is over. Late, it was also very long (12 weeks), but of moderate magnitude and severity, dominated by the type B virus.
Last week (April 18-24, 2016), epidemiologists recorded 40 consultations per 100,000 for influenza-like illness, or 26,000 new cases, below the epidemic threshold (85 cases per 100,000 inhabitants). Since the start of the epidemic, the Institute has therefore recorded 2.3 million consultations, including 1,050 serious cases admitted to intensive care and 167 deaths.
Limousin finishes the season in the lead
However, even if the epidemic is over, “influenza viruses continue to be detected”, warns the InVS.
Proof of this is that influenza-like illnesses still represent 2.5% of consultations with SOS Médecins emergency physicians. And there were 661 visits to the emergency room for influenza, including 53 hospitalizations
At the regional level, the highest incidence rates were observed in: Limousin (158 cases per 100,000 inhabitants), Franche-Comté (96) and Languedoc-Roussillon (80).
