This is what reveals a study conducted by Doctor Jairam Lingappa of the University of Washington and published in the medical journal The Lancet.
The study found that treating genital herpes with aciclovir on a daily basis would reduce the plasma level of HIV. However, this treatment used on patients with HIV and genital herpes would not reduce the risk of transmission of the virus. Note that genital herpes is an important factor in the transmission of HIV.
“We were able to show that aciclovir, used to treat the Herpes Simplex virus type 2 in patients also infected with HIV who were undergoing antiretroviral therapy, could slightly slow the progression of HIV”, explains the authors of the ‘study.
