Gastric band or food restriction, what is the most effective weight loss method? This is the question that the Toulouse University Hospital who is looking for at least 25 people over 60 to participate in a clinical study on obesity called “ELDSURG”.
Chosen by the Ministry of Health, the Toulouse University Hospital will coordinate 7 centers in France (Paris, Lille, Lyon, Angers, Nantes and Toulouse) which will carry out the same scientific work.

As a reminder, excess weight is a source of handicap in everyday life, because muscle capacity becomes insufficient. This is partly why people are short of breath, walk less quickly, have difficulty climbing stairs, have pain …
The criteria to participate
Reported by the site of Toulouse hospitals, the terms of participation are very precise. In detail, a draw will select the participants in two categories: either a significant weight loss (20 kg) obtained by putting in place a gastric band, which is one of the obesity surgery strategies; or a weight loss of 3 to 5 kg, obtained thanks to dietary measures based on a balanced diet, with the support of a coach.
In both cases, all participants will benefit from supervised physical training, as recommended during weight loss.
