THE’urinary incontinence would favor sexual disturbances and adversely affect the quality of life, according to results of a study published in the medical journal BJU International.
Researchers at Manchester Metropolitan University in the UK conducted a study with 3,805 participants in the population-based English Longitudinal Study of Aging (ELSA) cohort focusing on aging, retirement and male health and middle-aged women.
Incontinence and associated sexual disorders
The results of the study showed that 20% of women and 7% of men suffer fromurinary incontinenceand that this disorder is associated with negative side effects.
In fact, the women questioned who were affected by urinary incontinence reported suffering from sexual disorders, with decreases in sexual activity, a decrease in blood pressure. libido, growing concern about their frequency of sexual activity, and decreased arousal.
Men reported a decrease in sexual activity, a decrease in libido, increasing stress on the frequency of sexual activity, and a decrease in desire.
“There is a rather obvious link betweenurinary incontinence and a number of negative consequences for sexual health. But a “taboo” subject, urinary incontinence and its effects on “late sexuality” remain underreported as health problems, “said David Lee of Manchester Metropolitan University, the study’s lead author.
