Bicarbonate purifies and disinfects
First precaution to take : do not confuse baking soda powder with “soda ash”, very useful for the household but not consumable! And even less with caustic soda (sodium hydroxide), which is extremely corrosive and toxic. Bicarbonate is sold in the salt department of supermarkets, or in pharmacies and organic stores. And it’s crazy what he has for virtues!
He purifies the hands. Wet your hands and rub them with baking soda, as you would with soap: they will be clean and soft. If you want to clean and whiten your nails before taking care of them, soak them in a bowl of lukewarm water with three tablespoons of baking soda added.
It disinfects. You don’t always think about it, but combs, brushes, manicure accessories and makeup brushes are breeding grounds for bacteria. For a thorough cleaning, let them soak overnight in the sink with 8 tablespoons of baking soda. Rinse them the next day.
Baking soda whitens and refreshes
It whitens the teeth. A mild abrasive, baking soda helps remove tea, coffee or cigarette stains from teeth. Two to three times a week, just sprinkle some on your damp toothbrush and brush your teeth normally.
It freshens the breath. As a mouthwash at the rate of one teaspoon of baking soda per glass of water, it refreshes the breath by eliminating unpleasant odors of acidic (garlic, onion …) or basic (fish) origins. But it does not replace strict dental hygiene. If the problem persists, do not hesitate to consult a dentist: bad breath is often due to gum problems.
Baking soda softens and calms
It softens the skin. Anti-limescale, it softens the water and leaves the skin smooth and supple. Ideal for calming the razor burn of those gentlemen or soothing sensitive skin (a tablespoon in the equivalent of a cup of water). After a grueling day or a workout, pour & shy; in one to two cups (100 to 200 g) in your bath water: it promotes toxin elimination and recovery. Relaxing effect guaranteed!
It calms irritations. Applied as a compress, bicarbonate, with softening power, soothes irritations: insect bites, itching, superficial burns and sunburn. Make a paste with 3 measures of baking soda to one of water (or witch hazel water, disinfectant). Then apply to the skin. Leave on for 15 to 20 minutes and repeat if necessary.
Baking soda relieves and gums
It relieves the feet. Add 4 tablespoons of baking soda to a basin of hot water and let your sore feet soak for fifteen minutes. Recommended to soften calluses, but also promote healing of blisters. Renewed every day, this bath also calms itching and accelerates the healing of fungal infections due to its fungistatic qualities. Sprinkled, baking soda is also ideal against mold in damp rooms.
It erases calluses. Gently rubbed on calluses, a paste consisting of three tablespoons of baking soda and one spoon of water helps to eliminate them. Also perfect as a gentle scrub for the face, once a week.
Bicarbonate aids digestion
Heartburn and heartburn, difficult digestion after a heavy meal? Dissolve 1 teaspoon of baking soda in a glass of water and drink it all at once. It is one of those “buffer” substances which, thanks to their alkalizing power, stabilize the pH (hydrogen potential), avoiding any excess of acidity. For sensitive people, a pinch added during cooking makes pulses and acidic foods (tomatoes, fruits, etc.) more digestible.
It also removes bad smells…. by neutralizing acidic substances produced by bacteria. A little powder rubbed under the armpits or on the feet, and forget the smell of perspiration! You can sprinkle it liberally in the shoes, letting it act overnight.
