Meeting in congress, French dermatologists note that requests for rejuvenation of the hands are on the rise. Detailed review of existing methods.
To rejuvenate your hands to appear younger than your age, French women ask for more. This is why, after the face and neck, the new target for dermatologists and cosmetic surgeons is now the hands. On the occasion of the 2nd edition of the Interventional Dermatology Days, why actor makes a detailed review of existing rejuvenation methods.
First of all, it should be noted that this new trend mainly concerns women. Indeed, “even if the aging of the hands is observed as much in men as in women, 85% of requests for rejuvenation come from women”, confides to Agence France Presse Dr Thierry Michaud, president of the Aesthetic dermatology group. and proofreader for the French Dermatology Society (SFD). And Dr Thierry Michaud confirms that this practice is popular with French women: “the demand for care for aging hands, which often mercilessly display age, is increasingly strong”.
So ladies, to remove the dark spots that may appear on your hands, the oldest method used by dermatologists is cryotherapy (or cold therapy) by the application of liquid nitrogen. The main risk is depigmentation of the skin. Another technique, another instrument, the laser, with pulsed light photorejuvenation. This method is effective and makes it possible to permanently remove dark spots in 1 to 3 sessions at most, while restructuring the skin. Each session costs on average 100 to 150 euros (not reimbursed by Social Security). However, this technique is not without risk because the laser can be dangerous for certain phototypes, in particular black skin. Thus, to avoid burns, it is advisable to use lasers rather on non-tanned skin and preferably outside the summer period.
In addition, to counterbalance the melting of subcutaneous fat and put an end to wrinkled hands, dermatologists resort to filling, that is to say the injection of hyaluronic acid, a molecule present in the body that acts kind of like a sponge. Injected as a gel on the face, hyaluronic acid helps fill in wrinkles, while on the hands, it restores thickness. “It is injected between the tendons, for a natural result, but it is better to avoid putting too much”, specifies Dr. Thierry Michaud. This complete hand treatment costs around 350 to 450 euros, for an effect that lasts 2 years.
Another technique used by cosmetic surgeons, peeling, the method consists of mechanically or chemically irritating the skin to force it to regenerate itself by producing new cells. It should not be too aggressive so as not to create scars. And when it comes to lipostructure, a similar method, it consists of reinjecting fat. The operation, which lasts about an hour, is usually done on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia. The fat is taken from the thighs or buttocks and injected into the face or hands. But for Sfd, there again, it is advisable to remain cautious with the techniques of filling, that “because of a risk of compression of the tendons or the nerves”. Finally, all these methods are obviously more or less painful. Conclusion, sometimes you have to suffer to stay young.
