When it is very hot, our behavior should not be the same as in normal times. Otherwise beware of hot weather!
Watch out for heatstroke!
France is going through a heat wave that can cause a lot of damage, especially to children and the elderly. We can indeed fear heat stroke and dehydration. But how do you know when the heat stroke is approaching and what reflexes to adopt? If you start to have a severe headache, your mouth goes dry and you doze off or you have nausea, you are in danger.
The first priority is to get in the shade and bring down the body temperature. Drink water and most importantly, put water on your face. Without it you may pass out and if you are alone it can be dangerous. If someone around you is nervous or if you are directly concerned, do not hesitate to call 15. The emergency services will give you advice or send a team.
How to avoid sunstroke?
But to avoid reaching such extremes, certain reflexes are good to adopt. It is first of all important to keep your interior cool: close your shutters when the sun is too hot and turn on fans. As far as possible, stay indoors and drink water, regularly, in small sips. We recommend that people accompanying the elderly to moisten their face with a mist.
If you are working outdoors you will sweat more so you will need to drink more. Protect your head and ask your employer to arrange schedules to avoid working when the sun is at its peak. In the event of more specific questions, in particular in the care of the elderly, do not hesitate to call the Heatwave-Info-Service number on 0800 06 66 66.
