Abdominal pain, migraines, fatigue. So many symptoms that can spoil the good mood and motivation of women who suffer from painful periods. To resolve this problem, the British company Coexist, concerned about the well-being of its employees, has decided to set up menstruation leave. So women can rest without feeling guilty during these sometimes trying few days.
Menstrual leave already exists in several Asian countries such as Japan, Taiwan, South Korea or Indonesia. But in Great Britain, this measure raises eyebrows. Not for Bex Baxter, one of the leaders of Coexist, who assumes without blushing her empathy towards her employees: “I have managed many female employees in recent years and I have already seen women bent in two because of the pain caused by their rules, ”she told the Bristol Post. This leave is a service to those who tend to feel guilty about having to go home because they do not feel able to work, continues the leader. “Although they are in deep pain, they feel guilty about going home because they dare not define themselves as suffering just because of their period. And that is unfair (…) If a person is in pain. , whatever the reason, it is important to encourage her to return home “.
Pain during menstruation called dysmenorrhea is variable in intensity depending on the woman. If they generally last one or two days, they can last longer or shorter depending on the case. These pains may be accompanied by nausea, vomiting, migraine, diarrhea, fatigue or discomfort.
50 to 70% of adolescent girls in France suffer from permanent or occasional dysmenorrhea, recalls health insurance.
