In 2024, the Social Security financing bill could generate additional costs for patients. Consultations, like medicines, could be less well reimbursed, informs Le Parisien.
In the current healthcare system, there is a system of “medical franchise” and “flat-rate participation”. In short, it is having a small remainder to be paid after the pick-up of Social Security. The medical deductible concerns medical transport, up to 2 euros, paramedical interventions, and medicine boxes, up to 50 cents. And as Le Point reminds usthis has not changed since 2008. With the measure announced by Bruno Lemaire, this deductible would be doubled.
Several options under consideration
This would also be the case for flat-rate participation, which for its part concerns consultations with doctors, medical analyzes or radio-type examinations. It then amounts to 1 euro for each of these acts. Some people are not affected, such as recipients of State Medical Aid, pregnant women after 6 months and minors.
Currently, for patients who find themselves paying more than 50 euros per year (chronic illnesses, very regular appointments, frequent drug purchases, etc.) a full refund is then made. Nothing is done yet, several options are under consideration by the government as summarized by Le Point: increase this ceiling, increase only the deductible or increase both. Depending on what is chosen, patients with long-term illnesses could be penalized, which worries the unions a lot.
