Very fashionable, “French tacos” are nevertheless calorie bombs that are bad for your health.
- French tacos are becoming more and more popular, especially with young people.
- Too greasy and too salty, tacos are bad for your health.
- The CLCV therefore encourages occasional consumption of this type of sandwich.
According a new investigation of the consumer defense association CLCV, French tacos are high in calories, thus promoting the development of health problems linked to overweight.
Still unknown a few years ago, the french tacos are increasingly popular, especially among young people. The CLCV therefore had the tacos of 5 brands analyzed: O’Tacos, Chamas Tacos, Tacos Avenue, Le Tacos de Lyon and Nawab Kebab.
3 times more calories than a burger
First lesson: tacos provide almost 3 times more calories than a burger. “The tacos studied make you ingest an average of 1600 calories, or 60% of the recommended energy intake in a day for a 14-year-old teenager. For a size XL, it’s an average of 2300 calories, or 90% of the recommended daily intake!” , writes the association in a press release.
Same observation for salt: size M tacos provide all of the recommended daily allowance (5g per day), and size XL tacos provide double.
The CLCV therefore asks restaurant owners to commit to improving the nutritional quality of their sandwiches (reducing fat and salt), eliminating tacos that are too high in calories (size XL) and offering only one choice of sauce.
Occasional consumption
The CLCV also encourages occasional consumption of this type of sandwich, favoring sizes M or L, choosing only one sauce and avoiding the supplements offered (chips, cheese, etc.).
Finally, “we ask the brands to indicate near the tacos their Nutri-Score as well as their total average quantity of calories for each size offered”, conclude the activists.
