Microsoft is currently working on a Lite version of Outlook for Android. The app should be available worldwide later this month.
This is apparent from the roadmap that Microsoft maintains itself. In it we also read that Outlook Lite is a more compact version of the well-known app, but one that takes up less space.
Despite the smaller size, you as a user (probably) still get access to the most important parts of the app. We will see that later this month.
Outlook Lite for Android
Outlook Lite for Android is already available in a number of countries, but as of this month, no one will have to wait any longer. Lite works with Hotmail, Live, Outlook and MSN accounts.
The app does not support third-party email services. As a result, schools and companies are also excluded. You still use the normal version of the app for that.
Lite apps are not new in tech land. Facebook was one of the first major parties to launch the Facebook Lite app in 2015, primarily intended for users in developing countries.
Google soon followed with a series of Go apps, which also require little space. Such apps are useful for everyone with less technically ingenious smartphones.
