Indispensable as soon as the temperatures drop, the soup is found on all the tables during this season. This soup that you devour at least once a week, did you buy it or did you make it yourself with seasonal vegetables?
Industrial soup vs homemade soup, who wins?
Even though it is more convenient and faster to consume an industrial soup, nothing beats a good homemade soup!
In an industrial soup, we do not only find vegetables and herbs. If you look at the labels, you will find additives, modified starch which can cause allergic reactions but also too much salt and maybe even sugar. These ingredients are not good for your health, especially if you have high blood pressure or are monitoring your blood sugar.
In a homemade soup, you choose the foods that make it up and prepare it according to your tastes. Moreover, it is more economical to prepare it yourself with seasonal products or with legumes such as lentils or chickpeas which provide consistency and protein. The recipes are many. In any case, a homemade soup will bring you more benefits than store-bought soup. Usually made with vegetables, these are rich in fiber and bring good number of nutrients.
Three final tips : be careful not to over-soak the vegetables in the rinse water, nor to overcook them to avoid denaturing the nutrients. Similarly, do not cut your vegetables too early because the vitamin C contained in them will oxidize. Last advice, prefer a soup with pieces or ground rather than blended because blending “breaks down” the fibers in foods, making them less beneficial to the body and less satiating.
