We finally know the average size of an erect penis

This should reassure more than one. In an article published earlier this month, the newspaper Medical News Today looked at the existential question that haunts all men: what is the average size of a penis? And, based on the dozens of studies carried out on the subject (the oldest dating back to 1899), the authors came to the conclusion that the average length of an erect phallus ranged from 12 to 16 cm while its circumference average was 12 cm. As for the average size of the male sex at rest: its length would range from 7 to 10 cm and its circumference from 9 to 10 cm.

According to American research published in the JJournal of Urology in 1996 conducted on 80 “physically normal” men, the average size of the penis was 8.8 cm at rest and 12.9 cm when erect. In this study, the researchers also found that the size of an erect penis had no relationship to it at rest and that there was no relationship between age and sex size. Furthermore, “only men with a flaccid penis of less than 4 cm or an erect penis of less than 7.5 cm can be considered men with a small penis”, note the authors.

Another study published in 2011 and carried out on 3,300 Italians aged 17 to 19 estimates that the average size of a flaccid penis is 9 cm in length and 10 cm in circumference. Three years later, research on 1,600 Americans showed that the average circumference of an erect phallus was 12.2 cm. Another conclusion of the scientists: the exact dimensions of an erect penis depend on the way it is stimulated (with or without the hand for example).

45% of men believe they have a small penis

But two worrying data emanate mainly from these numerous studies carried out on the size of the penis: the erroneous perception that men have of their own sex and of the desire of women. Thus, most of the participants in these studies tended to see their sex smaller than that of others. But, as the researchers note, this is a matter of perspective.

Indeed, someone who looks at his penis from above will necessarily see it much smaller than someone who sees it from afar. The same depending on the weight of the man. Thus, according to a study carried out in Saudi Arabia which was interested in the BMI of its participants, the greater the latter, the smaller the penis appeared in erection. The sex would therefore appear in a reduced way when there is fat at its base.

Moreover, according to a study published in 2007 in the British Journal of Urology International, if 85% of women are satisfied with the size of their partner’s penis, 45% of men are convinced that they have a small penis. However, according to a survey of 67 participants convinced of having a small penis, none of them had one.

For women, the width will make the most difference during sex

What’s more, men always focus on the length of their penis when women pay more attention to width. Indeed, for 9 out of 10 women, the circumference of the penis plays a much greater role in the quality of a sexual relationship. Much will also depend on what a woman is looking for in her life at any given time. In an American study published in the journal PLOS ONE in 2015, researchers found that women preferred a larger penis for one-night stands: 16.25 cm long and 12.7 cm in circumference, compared to 16 cm long and 12.2 cm in circumference for a serious story. “In other words, women will prefer different sizes for different reasons at different times and therefore anyone can represent the ideal woman depending on the type of relationship she is looking for.” concluded the study.

Finally, scientists are concerned about the growing number of men who want to resort to cosmetic surgery to increase the size of their penis. In a study published in April in The British Journal of Urology International, researchers recommend that their patients consider non-invasive methods like penile traction devices or expanders instead. And if the person is really too complexed, talking to a psychologist remains the best way to regain self-confidence, they suggest.

Because remember that having a big phallus is not an end in itself, the reports then causing tears for women and exposing them more to bacteria.
