After screening the behavior of 11,000 Australians over the age of 25 in front of their TV set, researchers from the University of Queensland in Australia concluded that watching television was a public health problem.
A little alarmist Australians? According to their survey, every hour spent in front of the television after the age of 25 reduces life expectancy by 22 minutes. Australians who watch the small skylight on average two hours a day would thus lose 1.8 years for men and 1.5 for women. The scientists indicated that if the same survey were carried out in a country with similar living conditions, the results would be similar. Rather worrying when you know that the French spent an average of 3 hours a day in front of the TV in 2010!
Looking more closely, the drop in life expectancy linked to time spent in front of the TV is not surprising. The impact of a sedentary lifestyle on our health is well known. Sitting in front of the TV means less time devoted to physical activities. We can never stress enough the importance of moving to stay in shape!
