The Smart #2, the next model in the manufacturer’s new range, was surprised in the street while the #1 has just been presented. This small electric SUV with a more dynamic look was photographed in a sports version badged Brabus.
The #1 compact SUV ushers Smart into a new era of expansion into new segments. A strategy carried out under the now shared control of the Mercedes and Geely groups, with a range that is still 100% electric. The sequel will be coming soon. A new Smart model, which will probably be named #2, was photographed in China.
The Smart #2, a small “coupé” SUV?
Still camouflaged, the vehicle seems to display a size similar to that of #1 and take over the front lights. On the other hand, it presents a rounder profile due to its very inclined rear pillars. From there to seeing a “cut” version of the Smart #1, there could be only one step. Like the latter, the #2 should be based on Geely’s modular SEA architecture, thus benefiting from a long wheelbase and short overhangs. At launch, it would be equipped with a 272 hp rear motor and a 66 kWh battery offering more than 400 km of WLTP range.

Brabus back with Smart
The copy pictured here is not a basic model but a sports variant. These pictures confirm that future high-performance models from Smart will always be designed with Brabus. The logo of the German preparer indeed appears on the headrests of the enveloping seats. We also notice the red brake calipers. The ground clearance of this variation could be lower than that of the basic #2, which remains to be confirmed.
According to the latest rumors from China, the Brabus versions of Smart #1 and Smart #2 could benefit from an additional engine on the front axle allowing them to have 400 hp and all-wheel drive. The Smart #2 could be launched in 2023.
