The year 2022 marks Citroën’s return to the family segment with a C5 transformed to the point of now being called C5 X. Before its test, which will be published on Wednesday March 9, here is what to remember.
The new Citroën C5 X is ready for its first tests, taking place in Spain. The argus is on hand to discover this new French family car in its plug-in hybrid version. But, before that, let’s take stock of the C5’s return to the rafter range.
Citroën C5 X, 5 years of waiting!
Citroën stopped production of the C5 in July 2017 after two generations. Five years later, here is the third opus which finally appears. It is called C5 X exactly to underline the fact that its style is inspired by several universes. That of the sedans, of course, but also that of the SUVs with its raised ground clearance, its large diameter wheels and its reinforced black plastic wheel arches. This mixture allows the car to display a differentiating look in its world of competition.
A template of 4.80 m
The C5 X spreads its length over 4.80 m, it is 5 cm longer than a Peugeot 508 with which it shares its platform. But it is its height of 1.49 m that challenges, guaranteeing easy access on board. In the cabin, we discover a generous space and technology. Our test will tell if the good impressions felt on board in terms of comfort, when discovering the vehicle in static (see video below), are confirmed on the road. On this occasion, the C5 X will highlight its double hydraulic suspension and its variable damping reserved for the plug-in hybrid version.
Prices and engines Citroën C5 X
The prices are competitive in the family segment with a starting price set at €32,900 in the Feel finish. However, the 130 hp PureTech engine that accompanies it may lack the bite to animate this large sedan. We find a nice proposal at €40,500 for the 180 hp 1.6 PureTech petrol version, which is adorned with the Shine finish, generous in equipment, and the automatic gearbox like all models.
The range is headed by the 225 hp plug-in hybrid engine, the price of which varies from €44,350 to €49,950 depending on the finish. This version combines a 180 hp petrol engine, an electric block and a battery allowing you to enjoy 55 km of electric range according to the WLTP standard. It is the same engine as that of the C5 Aircross Hybrid, and it will make its honey with companies for tax reasons. No diesel on the program, to the chagrin of the big rollers, but the C5 X pays here for the choice of relocating its production to China.
