The suspense around reimbursement of homeopathy should soon be lifted by the government. During this time, the Order of the doctor is invited to work on the consequences of the end of the coverage of this discipline. Among the questions that the body regulating practitioners must answer is that of the right of practitioners to promote this specialty. Clearly: will the mention “homeopathy” still have to appear on the plates and the prescriptions of the doctors? The Order should deliberate and deliver its opinion in October.
This reflection is part of a debate around the effectiveness of homeopathic medicines. This is called into question by the High Authority for Health (HAS). On June 28, the body ruled against the continuation of their reimbursement by health insurance. To give back this decision, HAS experts screened 1,200 homeopathic medicines. They concluded that these products “have not scientifically demonstrated sufficient efficacy to warrant reimbursement.”
A debate settled in the coming days
The unfavorable opinion of the HAS was forwarded to the Ministry of Health. This should take a position on the delisting or not of homeopathy “in the coming days”, according to Agnès Buzyn, Minister of Health, taken up by our colleagues from RTL.
Currently, certain homeopathic medicines are reimbursed up to 30%. One Ipsos/Le Parisien poll revealed last November that 74% of French people are opposed to the end of reimbursementof this specialty, which they consider effective.
