According to Child Injury Prevention Report of the World Health Organization (WHO), published this Wednesday, December 10, in addition to the 830,000 annual deaths, millions of children are hospitalized each year for non-fatal injuries.
Unintentional or accidental injuries are responsible for the death of 40% of children living in high-income countries, such as France, despite a 50% reduction in the number of deaths, says the WHO. And 95% of these injuries occur in developing countries.
These injuries remain the main cause of death for children after the age of 9.
However, the WHO notes the positive results of the laws that have been applied in recent years such as the wearing of seat belts and the wearing of helmets suitable for children in terms of road safety, safety locking devices, in particular for drugs, lighters and medicine bottles; and the strengthening of emergency medical care and rehabilitation services.
