From May 30 to June 7, the customs services of around 100 countries coordinated by Interpol took part in an international operation called PANGEA IX aimed at dismantling illegal sites selling fake drugs.
960,000 illicit health products as well as 1,422 kg of bulk pharmaceutical products were seized during this operation by customs. These seizures mainly consist of drugs without marketing authorization in France (580,000), counterfeit health products (nearly 190,000 tablets) and drugs diverted from their use and used as narcotics (more than 30,000 doses ). Not to mention doping products (steroids, growth hormones, etc.) and skin lightening creams.
Over 77% of the products seized came from Asia (mainly India with 64.22% of the products seized).
A total of 55 illegal websites selling fake medicines were identified during the operation. 7 have already been closed, and sites hosted abroad will be reported to host countries.
