The health services and technology company Medicine4i entrusted Harris Interactive with carrying out a study conducted among 4,000 French people on their perception of access to care. This study highlighted a lack of explanation from the doctor as to the treatment prescribed and the possible side effects. However, without explanations of the possible side effects, patients are exposed to several risks: bad drug combinations, overdose, allergies…
According to this survey:
- 1 in 3 people say they never receive information about the side effects of prescribed drugs.
- Only 1 in 6 people receive systematic information from their doctor.
- Presents of one in two people long-lasting affection is not receiving detailed information on the side effects of treating her condition.
This lack of explanation is undoubtedly due to the fact that, again according to this survey, the average duration of a consultation at the general practitioner is 17 minutes. The ophthalmologist, the gynecologist or the ENT doctor receive their patients on average for 21 minutes. And these are the cardiologists which offer the longest average consultations with an average of 26 minutes.
