The General Directorate for Competition, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Control has compiled a list of 16 brands presenting a danger.
After the magazine 60 million consumers, it is the turn of the General Directorate for Competition, Consumption and Fraud Control (DGCCRF) to sound the alarm: some defective whipped cream siphons can be very dangerous for consumers. They are the cause of six injuries since last February.
“These accidents are manifested by explosions of devices which can occur either at the first use, or after several years of service”, explains in a press release the DGCCRF. The explosion propels “shards at high speed that can cause serious injuries, especially to the hands or face.” In March, for example, a woman suffered 10 stitches, a dislocated thumb and a damaged nerve after a siphon accident. In January, a man injured his hand; he is in pain today because of a defective siphon.
If in the “great majority of cases, these defective devices consist of a plastic head and an aluminum body”, the DGCCRF specifies that “other accidents, less numerous, concern devices entirely in metal, the bottom of which, poorly welded, may come off when pressurized. “
According to the DGCCRF, “several tens of thousands” of siphons are potentially affected by this safety problem. On its website, the administration, which depends on the Ministry of the Economy, draws up the list of 16 brands that may present a hazard : Urban Living, SIF, Orfèvrerie de la Tour, My Style, Editions Marabout, I2C, ‘Saveur & degustation’ / ‘Tutti cuisine’ / ‘Tay’s Kitchen, Idée Cuisine’, Equinox, ARD’TIME (F2J), Alinéa, CELD , Secret de Gourmet (JJA), Louis TELLIER, Sté BRUNEAU (stationery), Essentiel B.
The DGCCRF recommends reporting siphons that have been identified as defective. As for consumers who are wondering, this direction of consumption recommends not to use these devices until they have received details from the seller.
