The 41-year-old motorsport legend thinks it’s been great
Normally you don’t read a lot about motorcycles or MotoGP on TopGear, but of course we make an exception for such big news. Because who doesn’t know Valentino Rossi, number 46? After 414 races and 115 wins, Rossi has had enough. There was talk for a while that the driver would go to Ducati, but during the summer break he decided to hang up his helmet, reports say. Autosport.com.
At today’s Austrian GP, the Italian rider announced his retirement from MotoGP. At the same track, he took his first GP win in the 125cc class in 1996. The following year he became champion and then he made the step up to 250cc motorcycles. Valentino Rossi is now 41 years old.
What now?
It’s no secret that Valentino Rossi is also crazy about car racing. For example, in 2006 he tested a Ferrari F1 car in Valencia. This test resulted in an offer to race for Sauber. Rossi then chose to stay in MotoGP. In 2019 he was allowed to drive a bit in the F1 car from Mercedes for a PR stunt.
Rossi previously indicated that he would also like to race GT3 cars after his MotoGP career, or even in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. He has had the opportunity to drive the legendary Mazda 787B at Goodwood before, so he already has some experience.
