Several Porsche 928s were photographed derelict in a private field in Southern California. Their owner would not want to refurbish them or sell them, despite the growing value of the model.
The Porsche 928 was neglected for a long time. It must be said that the GT V8 engine before, marketed between 1977 and 1995, never succeeded in supplanting the 911 that it was and was supposed to replace. And although it has been rehabilitated with collectors for a few years, it still sometimes struggles to come out of oblivion if one relies on the recent discovery of a certain Steve Rhodes. The latter, looking for a filming location for the Westworld series on behalf of the production company HBO, discovered about fifteen 928 abandoned in a desert field in southern California (USA). This field is part of private property, closed and monitored by cameras.
The California Sun, friend and foe
If we trust the clichés, at least 13 Porsche 928s are left abandoned in the open air not far from a quarry located north of the town of Moorpark. From the 4.5 L versions of the early days to the S4 with 5 L engines, several versions of the 928 have been dying in the Sun for undoubtedly several years. Said Sun, if it attacks paints, leathers and plastics in particular, has the advantage of limiting the advance of rust and mold.

A voluntary abandonment?
The biggest mystery surrounds these abandoned Porsche 928s. One might think of the unsold clearance of an unscrupulous local Porsche dealer, but that doesn’t seem like the right track. ” A friend of the owner (ground) asked to store a few cars there. And he just never came back “, Says the photographer according to whom” the guy they belong to is still around, but he seems to have lost the motivation to fix them “. And to add: ” I was told he wouldn’t sell them “. The climbing rating of the 928 could nevertheless push potential buyers to come forward with very tempting offers to try to change the owner’s mind.
