No more decorative items, tickets slipped into the travel pot and silverware. These wedding gifts are HAS BEEN! If you want to surprise the bride and groom, so offer your blood! Finally, consult with the bride and groom first if you are not sure what you are doing.
In any case Barry and Monica Gamble, a newly married American couple, did not have a drop of hesitation when they decided to replace their list of wedding gifts with a collective blood donation.
“We knew we were going to get some freebies, but we thought it was an opportunity to give the opportunity to save lives. People seemed really excited,” says Monica Gamble.
On D-Day, they made an appointment at the Virginia Blood Services blood transfusion center. Monica in a white dress and Barry in a wedding suit opened the donation ball, followed by guests eligible to donate blood. To celebrate this wedding and this beautiful gift, the room had been decorated. The donors were even able to enjoy a piece of cake (not the wedding cake) offered as a snack.
Better than a toaster
The bride and groom claim to have received the best gift for the best day of their life: “The best gift is life. It sounds terribly silly, but it’s much more important than a toaster” .
This original initiative could well inspire couples in France who will exchange their vows on June 14, World Blood Donor Day.
The French Blood Establishment recalls that 10,000 donations are needed every day to cover the needs of the sick and save lives.
