Activision has finally officially confirmed: the next Call of Duty is Modern Warfare 2. Check out the first trailer here.
There have been some really subtle hints and some vague statements about the future of the franchise, but now it’s official. CoD returns to the classics with Modern Warfare 2. In the first teaser trailer, we immediately get a taste of the game’s cast. There are a lot of familiar faces to see.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Trailer
Shot in the drones trailer a variety of environments featuring faces of familiar Call of Duty characters. Of course we see Soap again, as well as Captain Price.
But the trailer opens with a standout choice: Ghost. The masked character played a major role in the original 2009 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Yeah, it’s confusing with those CoD names these days…
Anyway, Ghost isn’t just executed before your very eyes in that game. He will also be cremated together with you. Basically, Ghost is basically dead in the CoD universe.
That says something about the upcoming MWII. Activision and Infinity Ward have shown that it will in any case be a sequel to the old games. The two options are then: sequel to Modern Warfare from 2019 or reboot with a completely new story.
Release date
We’ll know soon, as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 comes out on October 28. Activision hasn’t announced any platforms yet, but the game will be released for PC anyway. It is also almost inevitable that the game will be released for both current and last-gen consoles. After all, the main CoD series can’t skip platforms, right?
