For the third generation of Toyota Aygo, the presentation time is fast approaching. Renamed Aygo X, this city car with a pleasantly adventurous look will be unveiled in early November. Citroën and Peugeot not having planned to replace their C1 and 108, it will now be derived from the Yaris.
Adding an X to its name is definitely in fashion. While Citroën has decided to bring back its C5 wagon under the name of C5 X, the Toyota Aygo will soon be renamed Aygo X. A letter that must be pronounced “cross” and which illustrates the model’s desire to join the growing crossover clan. The presentation of this third generation is announced for early November, and only a rear light has been officially unveiled for now. But the various spy photos were more telling: despite some adventurous tricks, announced by the Aygo X Prologue concept, the bodywork will remain that of a city car in the A segment. An endangered species, the fault of margins deemed too low by manufacturers.
A little sister of the Yaris

Toyota partners up to now, Peugeot and Citroën have decided to leave their 108 and C1 without descendants for the moment. In turn, the Japanese brand finds itself alone in managing the Kolin plant in the Czech Republic, where the Aygo X will always be manufactured. To compensate for the departure of its French associates, part of the production of the Yaris 4 is now insured at the same location. Even if it belongs to the upper segment, this big sister will indeed lend its GA-B platform to its younger sister.

On the other hand, no question of giving it its hybrid mechanics, considered too expensive. The option of 100% electric, at least as expensive, was also ruled out. Under the hood of the Aygo X, we will therefore find an evolution of the current three-cylinder 1.0 atmospheric gasoline of 72 hp. However, this will not be enough to ensure extremely aggressive tariffs, since the access price could exceed € 15,000. This Japanese woman will thus adopt a budgetary positioning close to that of a certain Fiat 500, invoiced at a minimum of € 15,790 in version 1.2 with mild hybridization.
