Tourcoing emergency medical personnel were victims of a violent assault. An investigation is underway.
An attack described as “savage”. In the night from Saturday to Sunday, about fifteen people came to accompany a patient violently attacked members of the emergency care staff of the Dron hospital in Tourcoing (North), reports The voice of the North. Three people were arrested and taken into police custody.
According to testimonies, the events took place around midnight. The tone would have quickly risen as the patient had been taken care of. A version disputed by the relatives of the patient, who claim to have had to wait four and a half hours before a doctor examines him.
Beaten
The situation took a different turn when “five people entered what is called the rotunda, the nerve center of emergencies, to verbally attack a doctor,” said a nurse at La Voix du Nord.
An emergency physician who tried to intervene was then “grabbed by the throat” and “beaten by five or six people”. “At the same time, another of my colleagues was grabbed by the hair so violently that a tuft was torn off,” says the emergency physician to the regional daily.
Here again, relatives have another version of the facts. According to them, it was a doctor who attacked one of the members of the group first. Faced with the situation, the staff intervened, followed by the security guard and the police.
“Ineligible”
“During the events, doctors were intubating a person in cardio-respiratory arrest and we were explaining to his relatives that it was perhaps necessary to consider organ donation. This is unacceptable, ”continues the emergency physician.
The shocked staff considered going on strike. Prosecuted for aggravated violence and contempt of a person entrusted with a public service mission, the three attackers involved were presented for immediate appearance on Monday, but the trial was postponed to November 7, at the request of their lawyer. Until then, they are prohibited from approaching the hospital center. The Minister of Health for her part asked for “exemplary measures”.
